For my issues paper I am going to look at public education in various countries. My argument will be related to how the American public education system could change to improve its quality (comparing it to other countries)
Garrett, the word "quality" is a tricky one. You will need to define and quantify what "quality" means. For example, it could be based on the level of math and science education students get, which you then prove is important for future employment based on various studies and experts. This is an argument with some very clear and vocal sides, so you'll want to consider counter-arguments and provide for some of their concerns.
This sounds like a great topic. There are definitely huge differences between countries. I had a friend move to China and the education was very advanced compared to ours. It may be worth looking into their system.
Interesting topic- I know in Germany, high schools function more like a college or university in the sense that they elect many of their classes and which diretion they go, getting students off to a solid start in regards to their career. This also eliminates some of the apparent need for "general ed" classes that we are all taking...nothing against this English class though.
