Issue Paper

I am going to write about the problems associated with abortion and its effect on societies.

  1. Dustin,

I would for sure include an Asian country in your paper, as they have a very high abortion rate and this has caused significant population problems for countries like China and Japan (since they abort girls and now there are not enough women for the men to marry).

  2. I had to debate abortion in a government class in high school. I had a really strong side, but both sides had strong points. Make sure to include both sides of the argument. The church has strong opinions about abortion. Maybe you'll be able to include a few points from there

  3. You want to be careful about religion. Keep in mind that your audience is not all the people that agree with you, rather it is the people you are trying to persuade. One of the problems with the abortion issue is that the two sides argue on different levels--one using religion, the other using a woman's right to their own body. If you are truly arguing the effect on society, then I'm not sure religious quotes are your strongest evidence. Only people who already agree with you would find these convincing, as a general rule.

  4. you could always debate what the "choice" is. also, you could look at the responsiblity of men in the issue. maybe make an argument that men should be held more accountable for their role in abortion. i dont really know how that'd be done, but its an idea. my thought is that if men knew there were unwanted consequences that would be enforced, maybe they would do more to prevent themselves from getting in that situation, and the whole load wouldnt want all the women

  5. This is a very controversial issue and I think you'll be able to give a lot of viewpoints on the subject. You could include religious viewpoints as well as political ones.

  6. This will be good to do, you should take a look at Japan. They have a very high teen rate of sexual activity/pregnancy, but a practically zero birth rate because it is "normal" to just go get an abortion.
