Daniel Freeman's topic

Topic: forced democracy in the Middle East

  1. Daniel, this could be a very interesting topic. Just make sure that you are looking at countries that have had democracy for for several years. Looking at Iraq or Afghanistan, which are still currently war zones, will probably not give you a very accurate picture. I don't know what Kuwait's current government system is, but I know we did get involved in Desert Storm. That would be one area to research. Democracy is not a new concept in Middle East and even Afghanistan was once a democratic state. Make sure you get a good grip on the history of this region before you make your argument.

  2. one idea that would add to your argument is to talk about the challenges Middle Eastern countries having in becoming a democracy. Economy, current wars, or culture may play a role.
